Arrest made in Lamar County Easter Sunday murder

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Lamar County Sheriff's Department arrested a suspect now charged with the murder of a Picayune woman on Easter Sunday.

Chanda Cheree Lavigne, 35, was shot in the head on April 24 in her Lumberton home on Myrick Avenue. Israel Rouse, 61, was also found at the scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Rouse survived and has been recovering in Forrest General hospital.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said, "Rouse was released from the hospital Tuesday morning and immediately taken to the Lamar County Jail, charged with murder."

Rigel is requesting bond be denied for Rouse, since he is already out on a previous felony bond stemming from Pearl River County.
