HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - Justin Mathews, a senior at St. Patrick High School in Biloxi, was elected Secretary of State at the 72nd annual American Legion Boys State. Delegates to the statewide conference met this week at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Boys State is a week-long program giving rising high school seniors from across the state an opportunity to learn more about governance and politics and the local and state level through simulated campaigns and elections, development of legislation and jurisprudence.
The following students were elected to statewide office for the state of "Magnolia" recently:
Governor: Zach Canon of Brookhaven (Mississippi School for the Arts)
Lieutenant Governor: Willie Dunbar of Magnolia (North Pike High School)
Secretary of State: Justin Mathews of Biloxi (St. Patrick High School)
Attorney General: Jacob Berry, Brandon (Jackson Academy)
State Auditor: Ryan Harris, Brandon (Northwest Rankin High School)
State Treasurer: Ellis Rustom, Greenwood (Pillow Academy)
Commissioner of Insurance: Eric Bennett, Sumrall (Sumrall High School)
Commissioner of Agriculture: William Mencer, Greenville (Washington School)
