BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County Sand Beach director Bobby Weaver says the increase in dead fish washing up on the beach is a direct result of the start of shrimp season and occurs every year.
After receiving complaints about dead sea life, WLOX walked the beach in Biloxi from the Lighthouse Pier to the pier at the I-110 loop. In that span, we counted about 60 dead fish, mostly catfish. Weaver said every year fishermen catch these fish in their nets then toss them overboard. He said his crews can clean an area and within hours the tide has brought in more dead fish.
Weaver also said the section near Cowan Road is more difficult to clean because of the bird nesting area.
