BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Despite their big move this week, the Palace Casino Resort is taking time to help tornado victims in Smithville, Mississippi.

Last week, Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway asked residents and businesses to donate basic supplies to the tornado devastated community. Palace Casino Resort General Manager Keith Crosby immediately began to coordinate a donation from the resort.

"We're happy to lend a hand," commented Crosby.

Tuesday, several Palace associates delivered more than 160 items to Fire Station No. 1 on Porter Avenue. Among the items dropped off were fans, lamps, coffee makers, can openers, toasters, rakes, irons, ironing boards, brooms, shovels, microwaves, toaster ovens, pots & pans, and cooking utensils.

Donations are still being collected at all Biloxi fire stations until Wednesday, June 1.

The Palace closed its doors Tuesday for two weeks in order to transfer utilities like water and power. Once that's complete, the Palace's in-house utility system will be at a 31 foot elevation.

June 14th is the projected opening for the next phase of improvements, which will include two restaurants and a lounge.
