MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - From the limo ride to the free, Southern lunch, Superintendent Kim Staley treated 10 Moss Point students like kings and queens, Wednesday.
"I think it is very important we show our top students we are proud of them," Staley said.
Good food is not the only reward these students are getting for good grades. Shelby Harris also racked up thousands in college scholarship money.
"It actually pays off financially," Shelby said about money for college. "It shows that I can succeed in life and if I put my mind to it, I can do whatever I feel like doing."
Each of the 10 students has carried high grade point average throughout high school and they admit it wasn't easy.
"My freshman year, I had a 2.7 grade point average. So I started on a rocky road and ended up doing very well."
Between bites of food, Stephen Benn also talked about how wonderful it feels to be an honor student.
"This shows that all of our students are capable and that we can do great things. We have great administrators that push us, and when we do great things they recognize us."
Staley said he doesn't mind paying money for a limo or food for kids when they achieve. He hopes this will encourage others young people to make the grade.
"What our children got to realize is that we are in the most prosperous country. If they prepare themselves they can live the American Dream."
Staley said students in Moss Point received nearly $2 million in scholarship money.
