Palace Casino manager praises "miracle workers"

BILOXI, MS (AP) -

The Palace Casino Resort in Biloxi is getting set to reveal the next phase of its $52 million expansion. June 14th is the scheduled grand opening of a much larger gaming area and two new restaurants.

The project is so large it will require the casino to close for two weeks, as final preparations are put in place.

General Manager Keith Crosby assures WLOX News the expansion project is right on schedule.  He refers to the construction crews as "my miracle workers."

It's a sure bet if you've visited the Palace Casino this spring, you've seen construction workers in and around the resort. The latest unusual sign of Palace progress is a crane in the hotel lobby.

"We brought a crane in here at 10 o'clock after we took out all the slot equipment to build a staircase that will have to be in here by the 14th when we re-open," said Keith Crosby.

He has June 14th circled on the calendar. That's grand re-opening day.

The porte co-chere may look far from finished now, but the GM is confident.

"Finishing decking in here, getting the lighting and sprinkler system in. So, this again will be open by the 14th. It doesn't look like it now, but there's miracle workers here," said Crosby.

After unveiling its new buffet just last month, the next phase of improvements will include expanded gaming space, two new restaurants and a lounge.

"Somebody asked me, what's going to be new?  And I'll tell you what I told them.  Everything. You're going to love it. I think it's going to surprise everybody. It's nowhere near what it was and I think it will shock the whole world," said Crosby.

Before the Palace Casino Resort can open its new facilities, it will close its doors at noon on May 31st and reopen on June 14th.

That two week closure will allow the transfer of utilities like water and power.  Once that's complete, the Palace's in-house utility system will be at a 31 foot elevation.

Crosby said this major expansion and investment reflects commitment.

"Our owner made a commitment to the coast. And he said himself to our associates, when we started this process, that none of that had ever changed. And that we were energized and enthusiastic about the market and committed to stay with it," said the GM.

The final phase of the expansion should be finished by the end of summer.  That will include the new hotel lobby and atrium, spa and gift shop, and meeting room space.
