Tarballs still dot Mississippi's barrier islands

HORN ISLAND, MS (WLOX) - Summer boating season has arrived on the coast. This weekend, more than a dozen boats were parked on the west end of Horn Island. Among the boaters were some who camped out at the island overnight.

The Park Service has posted signs prohibiting foot traffic on much of the island because of nesting birds.

Tarballs are a disturbing reminder of last summer's oil spill. Thousands of small tarballs and patties still dot the shorelines of Mississippi's barrier islands.
