Two D'Iberville officers under investigation

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - Two D'Iberville police officers are under investigation for an alleged assault against a private citizen. Friday, Chief Wayne Payne announced the investigation into Michael Mitchell and Justin Grafton.

Chief Payne said his department was contacted early Wednesday morning by the Oxford Police Department. The two D'Iberville officers had been issued citation summons based on a complaint of simple assault filed by a private citizen.

The officers were in Oxford, Mississippi attending a training seminar when the incident occurred.

Chief Payne said he immediately ordered an internal investigation into the complaint and the conduct of the officers. The officers were told to return home, where they were placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the internal investigation.

In a statement issued Friday, Chief Payne said, "As difficult as it is for any police department to have charges brought against one of their own, the D'Iberville Police Department aggressively pursues any allegations of misconduct because nothing is more important than the integrity of the department and confidence that the community has in the organization."
