MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - The Moss Point School District has fired one of its high school resource officers after allegations involving him and a student came about.
According to Moss Point School Board President Clifton Magee, the incident was brought to the district's attention this past Thursday. That's when the district contacted local authorities, and after much investigation, concluded the employee did not follow the code of ethics when dealing with children.
The resource officer, whose name is not being released, was terminated Wednesday night by the school board and the investigation has been turned over to local authorities.
The Moss Point School District released a statement Friday saying, "When this situation was brought to our attention, we immediately contacted the proper authorities. The individual has been terminated and we have quickly taken the appropriate steps necessary to ensure the safety of our students. We will continue to assist law enforcement as needed with the investigation. We recognize that situations such as this, while extremely rare, are very difficult for all concerned."
