South Mississippi weekend whereabouts May 20th - 22nd

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Shrimp season begins next week and Pascagoula wants to send their shrimpers off with a prayer. Commercial and recreational boats will parade down river channel for a blessing Saturday. There will also be a kids fishing rodeo and entertainment. Bring your lawn chairs to river park it begins at 8a.m.

The fast and furious boat races aren't over, this weekend boats will be speeding down the Gulfport Lake. Come check out some of the loudest and fastest boats in the country. Smokin' the Lake is Saturday and Sunday.

They are not as loud or as fast but they are just as much fun to watch. Homemade engine-less cars designed by children will be racing in downtown Moss Point. The annual soap box derby always draws an impressive field of young racers so come out and cheer them on Saturday at 9a.m.

Buy, sell, or trade your guns and knifes, or you can just enjoy browsing some unique collections. The Gun and Knife Show is at the Jackson County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday.

Bridgefest in Bay St. Louis has exploded this year, it's bigger, better, and even longer. Head on over for a 5K run, delicious coastal cuisine, arts and crafts, and of course a full line up of great music. The festival is in Old Town Saturday beginning at 10a.m. and Sunday at noon.

History will be fun at the Mary C. this Saturday. Come out and learn about Ocean Springs maritime history through fun exhibits including boat carving. Also you won't want to miss the cardboard boat regatta. The fun starts at 10a.m.

There will be a storm hitting South Mississippi this weekend, the Battlestorm. It is a combination of several games including basketball, freeze tag and capture the flag. Teams from the Boys and Girls Clubs will compete against reigning champions, The Hurricane. Plus don't forget to pick up your free hurricane prep kits. The games begin at 3p.m. at the Biloxi High School Gym.
