HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - It's a massive area, normally off-limits to the public. But for one day, a limited number of people are being allowed inside, and you could be one.
Does this sound strangely like a Golden Ticket into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory? It's actually the 50th Anniversary celebration at NASA's Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, taking place June 2.
Have you ever wondered what mysterious and important government work is being done at Stennis?
Did you know Stennis is a federal city unto itself, complete with a post office, bank, credit union, daycare center, fitness center, convenience store, and fuel station? It even has its own zip code: 39529.
Want a glimpse of the historic site, which has powered the nation's space dreams and travels for five decades and counting? If so, you need to move quick.
Because of safety and security issues, you must have a pass to get on the grounds. A limited number of the free car passes are being given out, and the last day to get one is this Friday, May 20.
Passholders will be able to enter Stennis on June 2, 2011 between 9:20am and Noon. To get a car pass, or to find out more information, call 1-800-237-1821.
