Two men safe after boat capsizes in Bay of St. Louis

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Two boaters are safe after their vessel capsized in the Bay of St. Louis. Authorities say the boat went down between Cedar Point and the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club around 7:30pm Monday night. Both men on board went overboard.

Steven Whitfield, 25, of Picayune managed to swim to the shore on the Harrison County side. Randall Pigott, 29, of Carriere was pulled out of the water between the Bay Bridge and the train bridge about an hour later by the Department of Marine Resources' Marine Patrol.

Both men were conscious, when they were taken to Gulfport's Memorial Hospital.

DMR officials say they believe strong winds and waves caused the boat to capsize.
