Hot copper leaves Edgewater Village businesses fuming

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi Police are investigating the theft of copper pipes from air conditioners at Edgewater Village businesses. Pictures sent to WLOX News show the A/C units gutted. The thieves hit 16 businesses, but only three had to do business without air conditioning Monday.

Sources tell WLOX News that El Satillio Restaurant and all the businesses north of the restaurant were vandalized overnight.

Jorge Flores from El Satillio told WLOX News the air conditioning was operating fine when the restaurant closed at 9 p.m. Sunday. When he and others arrived Monday, it was not.

Thieves have targeted copper pipes and A/C coils in homes and businesses to sell for scrap. Copper is currently selling for about $4 a pound.
