BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A Biloxi man, who police say threatened an officer with a throwing star, was arrested Friday afternoon. Wayne Albert Clark, 47, is charged with Attempted Simple Assault on a Police Officer in the line of duty.

Just before 2pm, officers received a report about a disorderly subject in the 200 block of Beauvoir Road. An officer saw Clark swinging nunchucks while behaving erratically and ordered him to drop the weapon. The officer then spotted a metallic edged weapon in Clark's pocket and commanded him to put his hands behind his back.

Police said Clark didn't drop the weapon, and instead took off running. They say he then turned and faced the officer, pulled the weapon from his pocket, and raised his hand like he was going to throw it at the officer. That's when police realized the weapon was actually a metal throwing star with sharpened points about four inches in diameter.

About that time, other officers arrived and Clark ran onto a former golf course nearby. A k-9 unit helped the officers eventually track the man down, hiding in the bushes.

Police said they found two nunchucks, a lock back knife and an edged throwing star in Clark's possession. His bond was set at $50,000 by Judge Albert Fountain.

Anyone with more information about this incident is asked to call the Biloxi Police Department at (228) 392-0641 or the Criminal Investigations Division at (228) 435-6112.
