GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport Police need your help finding the person who cut into a dog's hind legs to attach a metal latch around his bones. The abuse is so alarming, the Humane Society of the United States is offering $2,500 to anyone with information that leads to the abuser's conviction.

The brown terrier dog was brought to the Humane Society of South Mississippi last Wednesday, May 4. Someone found him walking near the intersection of 34th Street and 20th Avenue in Gulfport.

A picture released by Gulfport Police shows where a child restraint latch was attached to each of the dog's hind legs from being inserted through its skin around the bone. Investigators say the latches appear to be from a child's car seat.

The male terrier also has scratches on his face and head, and wounds on the belly area and inside his front and back legs.

The dog is being cared for at the Humane Society in Gulfport. This animal had no tag or microchip to identify its owners.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for providing information that leads to the conviction of the person that committed this crime.

If you have any information that could help investigators, please call the Gulfport Police Department Animal Control Division at (228) 868-5959.
