Old St. Andrews golf course littered with 'hazards, nuisances'

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Neighbors of the St. Andrews golf course in Jackson County say they're suddenly living next to a golf course that's dilapidating daily. And according to St. Andrews on the Gulf Association president Robert Spivacke, that's "causing hazards, nuisances and devaluation to the community."

Spivacke's association is circulating a petition, asking the group that controls the golf course property to maintain the dormant grounds.  On Monday, a copy of that petition was sent to WLOX News.

The petition was also sent to W. Todd Schweizer with St. Andrews Developers LLC, along with South Marsh Developers LLC, Beach Community Bank, and Lennar Corporation.  They're being asked to cut and maintain the golf course and commons area, remove the dangerous and hazardous conditions of the pool, clubhouse and maintenance equipment buildings, and remove the toxic waste covering the acreage delineated in environmental reports owners and lenders possess.

The St. Andrews golf course closed last July.  A month later, the property ended up in bankruptcy.  Since then, neighbors say the property has become a dangerous eyesore.  And they want it cleaned up, because they're tired of the mess.
