PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - City employees in tornado ravaged Smithville will soon get to breathe a little easier.
While many local organizations send volunteers and supplies to help in the relief effort for Smithville, the city of Pass Christian is sending a trailer.
The trailer used to house the city's senior center, but will now serve as Smithville's temporary government building, since all their government buildings were destroyed by an EF-5 tornado.
Smithville Mayor Gregg Kennedy said city workers are currently operating out of their vehicles.
"We are so thankful for Pass Christian's kind heartedness and for helping us out of this office space," Kennedy said. "We will be able to move all our city services into the unit and that will help us as we're recovering from this."
Pass Christian Mayor Chipper McDermott is simply paying it forward.
McDermott said he and his town are grateful to all who helped them during and after Hurricane Katrina and wanted to be able to return the favor to Smithville.
"We know what everyone did for us more than five years ago, and we wanted to give them what we had," McDermott said.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and FEMA will move the trailer early in the coming week.
