Jolly good golfing

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

It was beautiful day to hit the greens for the Jolly McCarty Memorial Golf Classic tournament at Shell Landing Saturday morning. Nearly 300 South Mississippians gathered in Gautier to tee off for a good cause.

The Bacot/McCarty Foundation sponsored the popular event to raise money for local youth agencies and non profits struggling during these tough economic times.

Organizer Todd Trenchard, says every year this golf classic is a big money maker and this year was no exception.

"We will probably end up raising about a half a million dollars for local communities, and it so important that we address those needs of our youth through educational programs because they are our leaders of tomorrow," Trenchard said. "We need to get involved in our educational system to support those kids so they can make a difference."

While golfers were enjoying the greens this morning, a bull was running wild.

Here's what happened, one of the auction items, a large, black steer got loose and ran around Shell Landings's golf course. Luckily, he was caught and no one was hurt.
