Parts of Highway 49 in Orange Grove are open again after an armed robbery, involving a lot more than a gun.
Gulfport police say a man entered "TD Pharmacy" on Highway 49 south of O'Neal around seven Wednesday night. They say the suspect then flashed a gun and told the clerk he'd detonate a bomb, if he didn't receive the prescription drugs he wanted. The clerk gave the man the drugs, then called 911 after he left.
Police did find a pipe bomb near the pharmacy counter. It was removed by the Biloxi bomb squad with assistance from the Gulfport Fire Department and was taken to a secure location, then detonated.
Gulfport Fire Chief Pat Sullivan says it was a team effort. Now it's time to find the man responsible.
Sullivan says, "We had the Fire Department out here, we had AMR out here, the Police Department, and the Bomb Technicians. Everything was done by the book, nobody was hurt, and we still have the evidence to start an investigation to hopefully find out whose involved in this."
The suspect is described as a white male, 50 to 60 years of age. He's balding with some gray hair and was last seen wearing a green shirt and black pants.
