The city of Ocean Springs birthday celebration got off to a running start Saturday morning. Dozens of runners showed up at Fort Maurepas for the 1699 5K race.
There was a dual purpose for the event. One was to grow the Junior Auxiliary's For Life campaign. The other was to help raise money for the city's 1699 scholarship program.
In addition to the 5K run, there was one mile fun run for kids along Front Beach.
The city's birthday celebration continues all weekend long, and ends with the landing of D'Iberville re-enactment on Front Beach Sunday afternoon.
