MDEQ closes section of beach in Gulfport; reopens 2 others

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality announced Thursday that a portion of the beach near Oak Avenue, across from the Armed Forces Retirement Home, is closed because of high bacteria levels.

The area will reopen once water samples show that levels are safe for human contact.

An advisory was lifted for two previously closed areas near Lady Mary Avenue in Pass Christian and St. Andrews Beach in Ocean Springs.
