GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

There's a store in Gulfport that caters to vegetarians on the coast, serving up meat free food and offering an assortment of items with an emphasis on Good Karma.

We caught up with Maharani Berg, owner of Good Karma Medley on Pass Road, as she prepared one of her daily specials.

"This is our organic salad," Berg said.

Berg is Indian Malaysian and a vegetarian. The Good Karma Cafe serves up a variety of dishes you will not find in 99.9 percent of the restaurants on the coast. Berg said the food is designed to appeal to vegetarians.

"It's very simple. It's easy to digest."

Berg opened her store in 2010 and has cultivated quite a following.

"When I started, there were only a few people who came in here. Now we have about 40 customers who come in regularly. Every day, we get new customers."

Like the vegetarian cuisine, Marharani's business perspective is very simple.

"My mood is not to make a lot of money, but to make people happy. I see them enjoying the food. I just became a cook."

You'll find some unusual, yet tasty items on the menu like cauliflower potato subji or yogi oats.

Good Karma Medley sells all sorts of items. The store caters to Vegans who reject all animal based products in life, including food of course.

Marharani said her store is a two way street.

"You give to others what they need, you get what you want. That's peace."

The Mississippi State Legislature is back in session and as usual a fight is brewing over money. Still unresolved is what to do with  $750 million coming from BP over 17 years because of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. To the people here on the coast, there is no question that all of the money should be spent on projects in South Mississippi. But so far, the powers in Jackson and the rest of the state won't agree to that.
