Long Beach's Gaines heading to Provine

After three seasons as the boys basketball coach at Long Beach High School, Otis Gaines has accepted the same position at his alma mater Provine High in Jackson.

Gaines led the Bearcats to a 15-13 record and the first round of the Class 5A south state tournament this season.

Gaines played for the Rams in the late 90s, and was on the Provine team that captured the state championship in 1998. Future Ole Miss stars Justin Reed and Aaron Harper were also members of that Ram squad.

Provine has a rich basketball tradition. They've played in the state championship game in 7 of the last 9 years. Luther Riley, who left the school last month to take over the program at Alcorn State University, who four state titles in 12 seasons on the bench for the Rams.
