BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Deanna Favre, wife of football great Brett Favre, stopped by the coast today at the 5th Annual Caring Women Awards Luncheon.
Favre received a standing ovation at this year's Caring Women Ceremony, but Deanna wasn't the only special guest. The room was filled with women who've all made some kind of impact on their community.
"Each of you are here today because you saw a need and you took the time to take that step to make a difference, and I commend you all," Favre said.
Favre fought through a little stage fright, to share her story of battling through breast cancer and reminding others there's always a purpose for what's happening.
"I'm confident that every challenge is also an opportunity to share my faith and offer help to others in need. It seems like every bad thing that's ever happened in my life has always turned into something good," Favre explains.
Harmony Raffeo shares that outlook. After enduring the loss of three children, a crumbled marriage and a failed business, she dedicated her life to helping others.
Two of Raffeo's children died in alcohol related accidents. She now helps drug and alcohol abusers get help.
"She has one living child left, but that doesn't define her of what she is. Those are things that have made her stronger and given her a purpose in life," said Kathy McCardly, Raffeo's sister.
"The program was awesome today. I think every year we can't top this, we can't do any better and every year it grows and becomes greater and more inspirational," said Biloxi Regional Medical Center Assistant Administrator Kathy Springer.
