WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) - Search teams said they found the body of the missing fisherman Sunday morning. George Ervin Estes Jr, 82 of Gulfport went missing while boating in a private pond in Stone County.
The fisherman went missing on a pond on City Road. Wiggins Fire Chief Jode Hatten said another man was mowing grass around the pond when he noticed something was wrong.
"When he looked back about five minutes later, he noticed he wasn't there, the boat was empty," Hatten said.
Thirty first responders from several agencies have been working since Saturday to find Estes.
According to Chief Hatten, Estes was riding in a 12-foot aluminum boat and the pond he was found in was 7 to 8 acres in size.
"Estes was found in 8 feet of water, but the deepest point was about 12 feet," Hatten added.
Although a 7 to 8 acre pond may not seem like much, Hatten said the debris in the pond made it difficult for divers to find him. Estes' cause of death is still unknown.
WLOX will have more on this story later today.
