WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) - Divers spent Saturday afternoon and evening searching a private pond in Stone County for missing fishermen. Wiggins Fire Chief Jody Hatten told WLOX News a call came in around 12:35 p.m. that an 83-year-old man who had been fishing alone was missing.
Hatten said a man mowing grass around the pond off City Road south of Wiggins when he noticed the fisherman.
"When he looked back about five minutes later, he noticed he wasn't there, the boat was empty," Hatten said.
Rescuers from multiple departments, including search and rescue units from Gulfport and Harrison County dragged the lake for hours.
"We haven't quit, but we haven't had any luck," Hatten said. "We'll let everybody get some rest and start back at daylight if we don't find him tonight."
