JACKSON, MS (WLOX) -

The Associated Press named Project Homefront the best franchise reporting on Mississippi TV.  Twice a month, Jeff Lawson and photojournalist Greg McNease introduce viewers to Mississippi heroes on the battlefield, and their incredible families back home.

"We're so privileged to have an opportunity to share these Project Homefront stories with you," said News Director Brad Kessie.  "We accept this AP award on their behalf."

Judges for the AP awards described Project Homefront as "Strong creative franchise.  Stories are emotional and heartfelt.  An eye-opening look at what military families endure.  Well written and edited."

Hancock County reporter Al Showers picked up the AP's first place award for the 2010 Best Spot News Coverage.

And, some pioneers of television for breaking the color barrier were honored Saturday night by the MS AP Broadcasters Association. They are Walter Saddler, Randall Pinkston, Sally Ann Roberts, Bill Dilday and the late Frank Melton.
