GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Coast business icon Roy Anderson, Jr, 82 has died. Anderson passed away Wednesday night.
In 1955, Anderson founded Roy Anderson Corp. The construction firm has built thousands of major projects all along the Gulf Coast, including casinos, hospitals, and schools.
Anderson earned his engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1951 and returned home to Gulfport after a tour of duty as a pilot in the Korean War to open a construction company.
He served as president of the Associated General contractors/Mississippi Gulf Coast Chapter and director of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce. He was also the recipient of the Distinguished American Award given by the National Football Hall of Fame, and currently is active in numerous civic and charitable organizations.
Today, the company is under the leadership of his son, Roy Anderson, III, President and Chief Executive Officer.
