BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The new president of Jackson State University is putting a personal face on college recruiting. Monday morning, Dr. Carolyn Meyers toured the Biloxi High campus and talked to about 200 seniors there.
She told the students about the importance of getting a college degree, the programs offered at JSU, and she encouraged them to visit the campus, either in person, or online.
"The first is to take our university across Mississippi to the people that we serve here, to help them look at us as a viable alternative to other schools, as a treasure and a jewel that it really is in our state's capital, and also to recruit students," Meyers said.
Dr. Meyers also spoke to about 500 juniors and seniors at Gulfport High School.
Some coast Jackson State alumni hosted a reception for her in Gulfport Monday night. Dr. Meyers has been on the job for just three months.
