Moss Point cuts 102 teachers, 22 based on performance
MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -
WLOX News has learned that at least 102 teachers in the Moss Point School District were notified last Friday that their contracts will not be renewed for next year. That information came from Kevin Gilbert, President of the Mississippi Association of Educators.
Gilbert said 80 teachers were let go for financial reasons, and 22 were non-renewed based on performance. Gilbert also said many of the teachers are experienced; Some have been teaching for at least 25 years. He is still trying to determine how many teachers are members of the MAE.
WLOX News tried again Monday to contact Moss Point Schools Superintendent Kim Staley. However, he has not returned our calls. A district spokeswoman told us this is spring break week for Moss Point schools.
