Gulfport to name Owen Miller as new basketball head coach

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - WLOX Sports has learned that Owen Miller will be named the new head coach of the Gulfport boys basketball team.

Miller, who's been an assistant on Andy Kennedy's staff at Ole Miss for the last five seasons, will be introduced at 5pm on Monday.

Prior to joining Kennedy's staff, Miller spent two years as an assistant at Colorado State and seven years at UT-San Antonio. Miller was also on Richard Williams' staff at Mississippi St. for three years, where he helped the Bulldogs to a Sweet 16 berth one season, and a spot in the Final Four the following year.

After a stellar playing career at Gulfport High that saw him earn all-state honors in his senior year, Miller played for two seasons at Lamar before finishing his playing career at Mississippi College.

Miller will replace Ricky Stone at his alma mater. Stone retired after leading the Admirals to the south state tournament this season.
