LATIMER, MS (WLOX) -

A 400 pound brass ship's propeller isn't the easiest thing to steal. Authorities in Jackson County say an Ocean Springs man discovered that the hard way, and the effort landed him behind bars.

Chad Norman Hickson, 23, of Ocean Springs, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of Grand Larceny.

Investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department believe Hickson tried to steal the propeller from a yard on Tucker Road in Latimer. But because it was so heavy, they say he wasn't able to load it into his vehicle. So Hickson allegedly tied it to the rear of his vehicle and drug it to a local scrap yard, causing several hundreds of dollars in damage to the newly paved section of Tucker Road.

Deputies said the propeller itself is valued at $3,800.

Chad Hickson is currently at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center awaiting an initial appearance in County Court.
