For the second straight year, the Mississippi Surge will play for the SPHL's President's Cup. The Surge beat Knoxville 3-1 to win Game 5 of their opening round series.
The Ice Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 1:00 to go in the first period on Mike Bulawka's goal.
It didn't take the Surge long to answer.
Jack Wolgemuth's blast from the point beat the Knoxville goalie at the 15:21 mark of the 2nd period, and the game was tied 1-1.
Almost 5 minutes later, Michael Richard fed Rusty Masters, who found the back of the net for a 2-1 Surge lead. They'd never trail again.
Richard added the game's final goal in the 3rd period, as the Surge won the series 3-2.
The SPHL Finals begin Tuesday night at the Coliseum. The Surge will meet Augusta in a Best-of-5 series.
Last year, Mississippi was swept in the finals by Huntsville.
