Traffic stops lead to arrests in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Biloxi Police officers watching for traffic violations this weekend are finding a variety of others reasons to arrest at least a few spring breakers.

Jonathan Reece, 24, of Prentiss was stopped Saturday at Highway 90 and Althea Street for a seatbelt violation. Officers then discovered a firearm inside the vehicle which was determined to have been stolen from Gulfport. Reece was also found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Reece was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $25,000.

James Edward Martin, Jr., 22, of Magnolia, was stopped at Highway 90 at Veterans Avenue for driving a 2004 Suzuki GSX motorcycle without a tag. Officers said Martin had no driver's license in his possession, no proof of insurance and was driving on a suspended driver's license.

After Martin was arrested on the traffic infractions, officers checked the VIN number on the motorcycle and found it had been reported stolen from of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Martin was charged with possession of stolen property and his bond was set at $5,000.
