Midday spring break traffic like a normal Saturday

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

As of 11:45 a.m., traffic across the coast is flowing like it normally does.  Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara says the Mississippi Gulf Coast Spring Break crowds are orderly.  And the people who are here seem to be having a good time.

One thing that became evident last night to law enforcement was the bulk of the crowd in town for the weekend party stayed away from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, and instead hung out on the beach.  But the sheriff told WLOX News, that didn't cause any problems.

Coast law enforcers have a staging area at Edgewater Mall.  If Highway 90 traffic becomes an issue, police will put a venting plan in place, preventing cars from making turns off of the highway.  Last year, they had a similar plan.  But traffic never had to be rerouted.

The Mississippi Coast Coliseum is supposed to be the main gathering area for spring break.  Carnival rides are set up there.  So is a stage for musical acts.  And tonight, the convention center will host a music party as well.

WLOX News and WLOX.com will monitor spring break activities all day, to make sure you're aware of the traffic situation along Highway 90.
