JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Three areas of the beach in Harrison County are now closed to swimmers, just as Spring Breakers are arriving for a weekend of fun in South Mississippi.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) said the following locations may have high bacteria levels:
- Lady Mary Avenue in Pass Christian (Station 5)
- U.S. Naval Home/Veterans Hospital near Oak Avenue in Gulfport (Station 10)
- Courthouse Road west parking lot in Gulfport (Station 10A)
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted.
The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, will notify the agency when the areas have returned to acceptable levels.
