Jimmy Buffett and Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway were standing together with big smiles on their faces today. Moments earlier, the entertainer stood in front of the Mississippi Gaming Commission and explained why his latest plan for a Biloxi casino should be approved. Commissioners listened and then gave his project the okay it needed.
Margaritaville will be built on a 5th Street property adjacent to Biloxi's back bay. Developers said it should open in the spring of 2012.
It should be noted that this project has nothing to do with the ill-fated Margaritaville project that was once going to be built in front of Grand Casino.
Doug Walker was at the gaming commission meeting. He'll have a lot more details about when Margaritaville will open, and why Buffett thinks now is the right time to open his establishment on Biloxi's eastern tip. Look for that story on WLOX News at 6:00, and later on WLOX.com.
