Williams pleads not guilty to sheriff's slaying

LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) - The woman accused of running over and killing George County Sheriff Garry Welford made a court appearance this morning. Brandy Williams told a judge she was not guilty of the capital murder charge filed against her.

The 19 year old Williams is one of two people linked to Sheriff Welford's death. She was allegedly driving the vehicle that was eluding authorities, and ultimately rolled over the sheriff last July.

Christopher Lee Baxter pleaded not guilty to the same charge last month. His trial is scheduled to be in August.

Patrice Clark was in the courtroom today when Williams entered her plea. She'll have additional details about what was said during the arraignment on WLOX News at 5:00 and throughout the day on WLOX.com.
