BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The group that wants to open Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Casino will pitch its plan to the Mississippi Gaming Commission Thursday. The Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant site on 5th Street adjacent to Back Bay got the go ahead from the Biloxi City Council in February.
Developers had hoped to get on the gaming commission's March agenda, and when they did not, it was a blow to their timetable to get the casino open by early 2012.
But now, the commission has called a special meeting in Biloxi to consider site approval for the $48 million project. Plans call for about 60,000 square feet of casino, restaurant and event center space.
In the restaurant, suspended from the rafters, parrotheads can spot Buffett's famous Albatross sea plane.
Developers estimate Margaritaville at Point Cadet would bring close to 700 new jobs.
