HATTIESBURG, MS (AP) - A federal jury in Hattiesburg on Wednesday convicted a District III Supervisor of Greene County of bribery, conspiracy to commit bribery and perjury.
The charges against Earnest Holder stem from county contracts to remove debris left after Hurricane Katrina. The Federal Emergency Management Agency funded the contracts.
U.S. Attorney John M. Dowdy Jr. of the Southern District of Mississippi says evidence showed that Holder awarded the contracts to a particular company in his county in exchange for illegal kick-backs.
Holder faces a maximum penalty of 23 years in prison and fines of up to $1 million. Sentencing is set for June 23 at 9:30 a.m. A federal jury also convicted Holder last August of filing false income tax returns.
