Suspects flee from police with 7-month old infant in car

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A couple is in police custody after allegedly driving off during a traffic stop.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, 29-year-old, Kristy Diane Allen of Covington, LA and 29-year-old Robert George Garrett of Folsom, LA were driving a 2005 Chevy Impala when they fled from police.

Interdiction Officer Patrick Brandle stopped their car for following to close to another vehicle.

During the stop, Officer Brandle returned to his vehicle for his K-9, but Garrett ran back to the Chevy Impala before Brandle could return.

Garrett sped away sparking a police chase into Alabama.

Sheriff's office said officer's observed Allen throwing what appeared to be bags of marijuana out of the window.

As the chase continued Garrett's driving got more dangerous. Officers decided to end the chase due to the possibility of endangering the infant in the car.

The couple was later stopped in Saraland, AL. Investigators drove to Saraland and took custody of the 7-month-old. The child was returned to Mississippi and is currently in the custody of DHS.
