Ellis is new MSU play-by-play announcer

Mississippi State has announced that veteran broadcaster Jim Ellis will take over as the play-by-play voice for the school's football and basketball games.

Ellis replaces the recently retired Jack Cristil, who left after a 58-year run that included broadcasts of more than 2,000 games.

Ellis has plenty of experience calling Mississippi State sports - the 1969 Mississippi State graduate has been part of the football broadcast team for 32 years and will continue his role as the main play-by-play voice for baseball broadcasts.

Former Mississippi State quarterback Matt Wyatt will join Ellis in the booth for football broadcasts. He has hosted the football pre-game and postgame shows the past two seasons.
