GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Gulfport celebrated Navy Week with a parade Friday evening. Leading the celebration as Grand Marshal was U.S. Navy Secretary and former Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus. He chatted with a few young Navy folks before things got underway.
The parade included some military firepower, as well as marchers from various JROTC programs around the coast. The Seabees were out in full force. And although this is Navy Week, Keesler Air Force Base had a strong presence as well.
Along the parade route were young folks, as well as those who remember their military days, many years ago.
"Most of us are retired military guys. We are out here because we want to be here with the rest of the military guys," one parade goer said.
The parade headed down 16th Street, then onto Courthouse and ended at Hardy Court.
Navy Week ends Saturday with the Annual Seabee Day at the base in Gulfport. The public is invited to attend.
