D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - In South Mississippi, some people plan to ring in the new year with balloon drops and party favors. At the Moose Lodge in D'Iberville, members spent Friday morning getting ready to party for a cause.
It took a lot of helping hands to transform the hall into party central. With the start of 2011 just hours away, there was no rest for the weary.
"It's pretty hectic," said Administrator Joe Wesley. "It's just a matter of getting all the decorations up. We started last night. Stopped for awhile, and everybody was back here at 9 o'clock just putting the finishing touches on it."
People said the lodge's New Year's Eve party is something they look forward to each year. Preparations start months in advance. Members said with a midnight balloon drop and live band, they expected a crowd of 250 or more to come dance the night away.
"It's just a lot of fun. It's a great place for the people to come," said Wesley. "There are plenty of people here. It's a good time. "
The party is about more than having a good time. Moose Lodge members say part of the proceeds will go to Moose Heart in Chicago, which is a facility for displaced children.
Wesley said, "We have a lot of children that don't have parents. Moose Heart is where we take them in, we support them, we educate them. Own school system, athletic program. Make them better people in the world."
Members say the D'Iberville lodge also supports other philanthropic causes like giving Christmas toys to needy children.
