Gas prices inch higher and higher for the holidays

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) – Oil prices have climbed to around $91 a barrel.  If you've gassed up your car, you probably felt that spike in your wallet.

"I think it's outrageous. Especially right here at the holidays," says consumer Donna Sanders.

Gas prices in South Mississippi are inching closer to $3.00. At a time when money's already tight, paying more at the pump is never good news.

"Especially with having to buy Christmas presents." says consumer Bridget Hammond "And having to get in your car and go places to buy presents, it's ridiculous."  Hammond drives from Hurley to Biloxi when she needs shop.

Gas station employees say the price is set from high up within each company.  The prices also reflect national trends.  In some areas, gas has already peaked over $3.00, and analysts expect it to keep climbing.

"It is what it is," says consumer John Marble.  "I don't know individually what I can do about it.  But, I am thankful that I can buy some gas."

While you might not be able to do much about gas prices, you can do something about how much you spend.  Before you head out to gas up, check your phone. There are now applications and web sites that can show you the gas prices around town.

"We have to sacrifice if we want to drive," says consumer Betty Byers.

However, no matter how high gas rises consumers agree: gas is a necessity for every day life.
