GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - They're going door to door in Gautier telling homeowners about an amazing opportunity for free home repairs.
Announced in Mid-November, the state of Mississippi and the Department of Housing and Urban Development set aside $132 million to repair low-income homes damaged by water or wind from Hurricane Katrina. In just a month, 8,000 families signed up hoping to be eligible to receive $75,000 for renovation work.
Now there's a neighborhood improvement program in Gautier that's pushing that total even higher by going door to door to inform people about the money available for long put off Katrina repairs.
Hear more about the program, and hear from homeowners anxious to finally take the final step in their hurricane recovery later today on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
