New restaurants cooking up good business

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - If you pull up to the two newest eateries in Gulfport, you may have a bit of déjà vu.  Both Bob's Burger Factory and Lupita's Mexican Restaurant were once home to other restaurants, now closed. But, these new venues think they have a winning combination.

"I just think we needed some new, fresh identity. The High Cotton Grill, I think we did a great job with the High Cotton Grill, but it was just time for a change. And this is something that's going to be very popular," said owner of Bob's Burger Factory, Bob Taylor.

From the menu to the vintage decor Bob's is looking to make a niche for itself by targeting a specific audience; however, there are other ways you can take advantage of a market in a not so great economy, like going with a crowd favorite. Lupita's shows this by serving up the ever popular Tex-Mex genre.

Whether it's the theme or the menu, Taylor also knows that following business trends are a good way to find success.

"These burger things are kind of the fastest growing thing in the restaurant industry right now, and I just think it's a good mix for the demographic in this area right now," said Taylor.

One trend that both businesses can be happy about: The Gulf Coast Business Council is reporting promising numbers with sales taxes up and employment holding steady. This is good news when considering how much is invested into a new restaurant.

Now, with all the right ingredients in place, these restaurants may just make one tasty recipe.
