Mobile MoonPie ready to ring in 2011

MOBILE, AL (WLOX) - MOBILE, AL (WLOX) - Move over Times Square. There's now a big New Year's Eve celebration for our region. At midnight, a giant MoonPie will be dropped from the top of the RSA Building in downtown Mobile.

The MoonPie over Mobile celebration will feature a parade, bands, even fireworks and a light show.

"We are going to have fireworks and a 12 foot MoonPie that we built on top of the building, all the way down with fireworks going off. It is really going to be spectacular," said Retirement Systems of Alabama CEO Dr. David Bronner. "A great thing to kick off Mardi Gras."

As we all know, the MoonPie is a part of Mardi Gras and Southern culture.

You can catch "It's a MoonPie New Year" starting at 11:55pm New Year's Eve night. Join our own Meggan Gray live from Mobile with Mark Bullock and ring in the New Year.
