GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) – A Gautier daycare center owner is on a mission to make sure under privileged kids in her community have a very merry Christmas. Sarah York launched her Red Box Gift-a-way campaign a few weeks ago. Her goal is to get everyone to give this holiday season.

York and her husband have been putting large red boxes out all around town hoping folks will fill them with toys for needy children just in time for Christmas. The box picked up from a nearby bowling alley was full.

"Anytime we can give back to community we want to do that. They seem to have a good thing going and it seems like a very good thing to do for the young kids," bowling alley manager Tammy Fox said.

Thanks to 25 generous businesses, York has collected more than 500 gifts and money to buy even more toys. She plans to give out the presents this Saturday at her Gautier business.

"We have different video games and we have baby dolls," York said. "We also have bowling toys that were donated by Spanish Lanes. We have also basketball hoops."

York said what inspired her to create this program is there are so many struggling families wondering how they'll put gifts under the tree for their kids each year.

"It is multiple children that are in need and we want to make sure we reach a multitude, not just a few," York said. "I didn't want it to be that you were not able to receive because you were not in a certain tax bracket. I wanted you to receive if you felt like you needed it."

York will have a gift giveaway at Faithfully Yours Learning Center Saturday, December 18th, from 5 to 9pm.
