OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Ocean Springs fire fighters have a new truck in their fleet, thanks to some insurance rebate money.

The City of Ocean Springs Fire Department said the new Pierce Contender Pumper Fire Truck is valued at $300,000. The 30-ton fire truck is the first new fire truck purchased by the department since 2005.

The Pierce Contender features a back-up camera and a top mounted pump as a safety feature allowing fire fighters to operate the pump out of harm's way during a fire emergency.

"It was a windfall that we were able to use the insurance rebate money, rather than tax payer dollars," said Fire Chief Jeff Ponson. "We have been fortunate to be able to replace aging equipment while keeping operating costs to a minimum."
